CIY: Adrian, MI

Three more hours into the ride; one hour left. I was playing TextTwist with Nicole and we started to smell this terrible smell. After opening the windows to try to clear it out, Tamerlee stopped the bus and went back to investigate. She came back screaming, “Everybody out!” We piled out and found out that one of the fuel lines had broken and was spraying raw diesel all over the engine (including the spark plugs; it’s crazy that we didn’t blow up!). But we broke down right in front of a café, so we all went over there to eat and hang out. The owners were really great about letting us stay for a few hours, and CIY sent another bus for us. Truly God’s providence… not only did we break down right in front of the café, but the only mechanic equipped with diesel repair abilities was only two miles away, and the bus that got sent for us wasn’t supposed to be at CIY, but the church that rented it decided at the last moment to take it instead! We made registration with 15 minutes to spare after waiting in the cafe for a couple hours, and had enough time for a quick supper. Because of the +1 time change, I’m not really sleepy, even though it’s 11:50 pm here. I’m in DuffMan’s timezone now… ha.

I love our CIY group this year. Even though I have none of my truly close friends here, like Anthony or Jacob and Justin, I know everyone and they’re all great. Laura Pechawer is still my favorite Laura Pechawer, and Leah is so much fun to be around. Josh Fast and Summer Boehne are great to hang around with, and Nicole is my hero. Christy and Stacy are so excited to be here; they’re great for the rest of us in getting us pumped up during main sessions and afterwards too! I’m rooming with Matt Sooter and Brandon Robinson… now let’s hope Brandon doesn’t tell us Jamie stories all night. I promised to show him the pictures I “stole” from her that she doesn’t want him to see when we get back home. It’s his birthday present :p

Highspeed is wonderful… Josh and I scoped out the campus for half an hour trying to find it, but all the time it was hidden on the underside of the phone plate. Sneaky, sneaky Adrian College. And here we were bashing on this little Christian university because we thought it had no high-speed :p

I’m out for tonight; more updates tomorrow. Currently downloading Fedora Core 2 at 150 kb / sec :D
