PEBCAK

I’ve been back a little less than a week (it’s been wonderful), and I’ve been working on computers every day. It must just be coincidence, but I’ve been hit with so much PEBCAK lately that it just makes me want to hit my head on the desk. Consider the following:

Nomicons v2: Remade

I’ve finally completed the Nomicons rewrite. You can get it here and then read the readme for install instructions. Leave comments if you find bugs. I’m going to post the pack on InvisionFree later… I would post in the Trillian directory but I’m not sure exactly how kosher this is.

UPDATE: One thing noted. If you’re using Instant Lookup (the Wikipedia tie-in) then some emoticons like  will fail. You can turn this off in Preferences > Message Windows.

IF Staff Comic 3

The third InvisionFree Staff Comic (Christmas Edition) is out. Hehehe.

Rethink. Remake. Redesign.

I’m tired of this website template. It was a cool idea when I started it… mostly based around the image flipflop on the front page. But it’s quickly showing its age. When I created it last year, I was still designing for 800 × 600. Those days are past… may 1024 × 768 reign supreme. I like liquid layouts… especially on my 1400 × 1050 screen where they are lots easier to scale using Firefox.

I like colors and light. This template has none of that because I’m not much of a designer, graphically or conceptually speaking. Nate is too busy to help, not that he really knows about webdesign. The scanlines, as one of the IF staff put it, “make my eyes bleed”. The lack of whitespace makes everything seem cramped. And I have no menu space!

I like images. How many are there in this template? Mm hmm. None. Because I’m not a designer. Give me a picture of a site, and I’ll code it up happily. But conceptualizing is a whole different ball game. I dunno, I’ll get it down one of these days. But until then, this layout’s got to stay :(

Back Home

Well, finals weren’t too bad. I had three on Monday and one on Tuesday, and I think I escaped safely with a 4.0 for first semester. I came home Tuesday afternoon— took one wrong turn but it didn’t put me too far out of the way. Got home just in time to see Nate’s basketball game.

The next day I took Nate lunch and then went to a computer job, came home and got things in order in preparation for being here a whole month, mmmm! It’ll be nice to have a break from school without ANYTHING hanging over my head. I never could enjoy Thanksgiving break, because I had those four papers hanging over my head; this is a welcome change. I decided the single thing I miss most about college is lack of touch. Not just hugs, but just any friendly touch at all… a pat on the back, even. Jenn and Rachel were ever so wonderful at being cuddly and kind, but they’re both leaving now, sigh. Pictures in a bit though.

Yesterday I was out on another computer job (I’m booked up through next week, yay!) and was just driving home when Kristina Kory called. She’s so adorable! She was sad because she didn’t understand logarithms very well, and they had a test the next day (today). So I went over and tutored her for an hour and a half or so. She gets so shy around me… so cute. Very talkative on MSN and the phone, but when I show up, she clams up! Tonight she called me the best big brother ever, and made me a deal: “I’ll be your substitute little sister as long as you’ll be my substitute big brother! Deal?” I love that little girl so much :)

Worked at the Humphreys today for about 5 hours. Can’t argue with having spending money for next semester, and I even get to go back next week! I wish I could be working computers down at Norman, but it just takes so long to get established. So tutoring there and computering here will have to see me through. I’m completely broke after I pay for spring semester…

My LOTR III Extended Edition DVDs came yesterday, so I watched DVD 1 last night and DVD 2 tonight. Not quite as good as I had hoped for the extended material but still awesome! And I have a whole 2 DVDs of commentary and things to watch. Mmmm.

IdioPoll 1.1b2 is coming soon with some bugfixes. IdioQuote 1.0, a modified version of my Quote of the Moment script, will show up soon for public consumption. And I have a website for MACA to do soon. Fun stuff! I’ve missed coding, didn’t do much over the semester. I also am almost done with my Trillian 3 IPB emoticon pack, which is bigger and better than ever. So much to do, but so much time to do it in… mmmmm!

Seriously, how could I be any happier? ...Okay, maybe if med school apps were all done.
