We’re coming up on five years of operation… here’s to another fifty!
…is obviously what you call spring break after it’s over
Sam came home with me for break, which was a lot of fun. We took her through her first automatic car wash and also to her first PetsMart to look at the mice and gerbilses. Mom made sooooo much tasty food… lasagna and fettucine and ice cream pie and chocolate cake and raisin sheet cake and taco salad mmm! So most of break was spent eating, sleeping, or exploring Joplin (not that there is a great lot to explore, but it was fun to show someone around who had never been there).
However, the day we were to come back I woke up with no voice and a sore throat. And thus, I’ve been sick for the last couple days, no fun! But I’m feeling a lot better now, almost to the point of wellness.
My GameCube came yesterday, along with a replacement cell phone (mine’s earpiece was going out; luckily it was still under warranty). I eagerly opened the GameCube box and happily found a well-packaged ‘Cube. I started testing everything to make sure it worked before giving the guy positive feedback: turns on, looks good, no major cosmetic issues. Good. Now the controllers… Wavebird 1, looks fine, works fine; Wavebird 2, looks fine, a bit dirty, works fine. Controller 1, eek! Damaged control stick. Still works fine, looks icky and feels funny. Oh well. Memory cards, look fine, saved data on them erases fine. Games… Double Dash, works great, pretty scratched. Smash Bros… gasp! A Chihuahua has eaten the disc!

It was definitely a blessing to get so much back, although I lost a lot of money. But it could have been so much worse. Everybody was praying for things to work out okay, and I’m grateful it wasn’t worse.
I did my last SafeWalk duty (mmm, I will not miss it!) last night with Thomas and Shaye. Shaye’s boyfriend brought his GameCube and we all happily whiled away the hours playing Smash Brothers. It made me think that I should buy a GameCube, since having fun video games is often a good excuse to attract residents to my room
Plus, GameCube games are fun
However, I’m stymied by the fact that I have very specific requirements, and there are just toooo many listings on eBay to wade through. I don’t really care what color the thing is (although I like the black ones), but I want Smash Bros. and Double Dash, and only real Nintendo-branded controllers (none of the MadCatz or Wavebird icky controllers). And I don’t really want to spend more than one RA paycheck on all of it (around $80 $100).
Someone with more game console experience than I… am I just kidding myself? A GameCube, four real controllers, and two games, for under a hundred bucks?
