Polish’d!

So Paige came over for tutoring tonight. After we were done, she was like “Let’s go shoe polish Pastor Kitchel’s car!” So we jumped in the car and went and bought shoe polish, then drove around for like 45 minutes trying to find his apartment (she knew the street but not the number, and there were approximately 200 apartments). FINALLY we found it… I got some great pictures that I’ll post later. The Photos section needs redone. I don’t know how I can work it b/c I don’t have much disk space, but we’ll see. Temporarily:

CIY: Days 3 & 4

Not much happened yesterday; it was pretty bland. But today was awesome. We had CPR in for the morning session, which was pretty fun. But today was extended recreation, and we went to this awesome Christian rec center about 30 minutes away from Adrian. For $5, they had volleyball, basketball, an indoor pool… and ALL the bowling you wanted— smoke-free! I haven’t bowled in forever, and I have a nasty left hook that takes me several frames to work out. But I felt confident in my ability to keep from keeping my arm from crossing over, so I went up there and lobbed with confidence… and made 10 consecutive gutter balls with increasingly less confidence. So I ended up with 50 the first game :p Good thing I care nothing for self-esteem anyway, and thus didn’t care about my score… plus no one cared anyway; our youth group is so fantastic in how close we are. But then my next two games I had 111 and 118, which are about on target for me. I was satisfied.

All week I’ve been clearing off the tables for our youth group, taking their trays and such. It’s just a way I can help out, and for some reason I find it kinda fun. But today, we ate first, so I decided to live a little and clear off everything. People’s reactions ranged from incredulous to excited that they didn’t have to go dump their tray :p But now my wrists kinda hurt… I think I cleared over 100 trays, not counting the people who doubled up their plates on one tray.

Laura Pechawer is still the coolest person ever. And I’m so glad I got to room with Matt and Brandon; we’re still talking here at 1:00 in the morning, just about anything and everything.

CIY: Day 2

Today was mostly uneventful. Got up at 6:15, took a shower in the Shower-That-Has-Only-Two-Settings (uber-cold and scaldingly hot) -and-That-Also-Has-No-Walls-Only-Curtains-Separating-Stalls. It’s the only way to describe them :p

We had a morning speaker from True Lies who was really good (he also mentioned XXXChurch, the Internet’s largest Christian pr0n site, quite a few times). In the afternoon we heard from Voice of the Martyrs, and in the evening some guy named Josh spoke. Great Laura Pechawer quote #1:

1/4 of all people at CIY are named Josh. That includes guys and girls.

We have four Joshes just in our youth group :p

One 5 Oh just isn’t quite up to par for CIY. They’re too… old school. And they can’t keep the same musicians for more than a year. Great Laura Pechawer quote #2:

…the ever-evolving One 5 Oh, who *try* really hard at least…

But it’s all good, the worship and experience is still awesome.

A kid got hurt really badly tonight playing Buk Buk. For the uninitiated, Buk Buk consists of one team bending over in a line, and the other team runs and jumps on top of them one at a time until someone falls off. This makes for… interesting looking pictures. Laura Pechawer quote #3:

Buk Buk? Ohhh, you mean the Groping Game!

But anyway, a little bitty incoming freshman was in the line, and this huge guy came and vaulted three people to land square on the little guy’s back. He broke something; hard to tell what. The ambulance came and put him on a backboard, so I hope it’s not anything too serious like a broken back.

With my Mountain Dew, I’m good to go, so I’ll be able to get up in the morning. The weather in Adrian is fantastic; after I figured out how to close the window, I slept great.

CIY: Adrian, MI

We left yesterday at around 11:15 for Adrian, MI, where the youth group is attending a CIY conference. We drove for 10 hours from Joplin northeast to Indianapolis, where we spent the night. We kept having to stop (4 or 5 times in all) to make sure the bus wasn’t breaking down… it’s a really old bus, and the oil pan has loose bolts that keep coming off. Every hundred miles or so, we stopped for a quick oil pan check. But everything was pretty uneventful yesterday. I played Hearts and Monopoly and worked on the Common Grounds website for Josh. And listened to a LOT of music… I love my Bose headphones! (Everyone else did too ;) )

I shared a bed with Joey Garnett… he swore he “slept like a rock,” so I hoped for an uneventful night. We watched True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger until 1:00 in the morning :p I love watching those old blow-up-everything movies! But then came bedtime, and after shoving a sleeping Joey off of me twice in the first hour, I began to see that Joey was not the rock he claimed to be. By 3:00, I had awakened twice… on the floor. Joey thrashes. And Josh snores. I didn’t sleep much. But then, I had set my alarm for 5:45 to wake Joey (he can’t wake up by an alarm) and I told him to wake me up when he got out of the shower. Long story short, he didn’t, I overslept and got no breakfast and was cranky for a couple hours :D

The Passion

Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ opens Feburary 25. I highly, highly encourage everyone to go see it. Even if you don’t subscribe to the beliefs of Christianity, the events the film portrays are undeniably historical. I plan on seeing it multiple times, if I have time.

Side note: This’ll be the first R movie I’ve ever seen, weird. It felt weird having to have someone else buy tickets for me…
